Bishop Jakes - The Good Shepherd

Acts 1:1-8
John 10:9-12

Acts 1:1 The former treatise have I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach,  1:2 Until the day in which he was taken up, after that he through the Holy Ghost had given commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen:  1:3 To whom also he showed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God:  1:4 And, being assembled together with  them,  commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but  wait for   the   promise   of   the   Father,   which,   saith   he,   ye   have   heard   of   me.   1:5  For   John   truly   baptized   with   water;   but   ye   shall   be   baptized   with   the   Holy   Ghost   not   many   days   hence.   1:6 When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?  1:7 And he said unto them,  It   is   not   for   you   to   know   the   times   or   the   seasons,   which   the   Father   hath   put   in   his own   power.   1:8  But   ye   shall   receive   power,   after   that   the   Holy   Ghost   is   come   upon   you:   and   ye   shall   be   witnesses   unto   me   both   in   Jerusalem,   and   in   all   Judea,   and   in   Samaria,   and   unto   the   uttermost part   of   the   earth.    (KJV - sent from CadreBible)

John 10:9  I   am   the   door:   by   me   if   any man   enter in,   he   shall   be   saved,   and   shall   go in   and   out,   and   find   pasture.   10:10  The   thief   cometh   not,   but   for   to   steal,   and   to   kill,   and   to   destroy:   I   am   come   that   they   might   have   life,   and   that   they   might   have    it    more abundantly.   10:11  I   am   the   good   shepherd:   the   good   shepherd   giveth   his   life   for   the   sheep.   10:12  But   he that is a hireling,   and   not   the   shepherd,   whose   own   the   sheep   are   not,   seeth   the   wolf   coming,   and   leaveth   the   sheep,   and   fleeth:   and   the   wolf   catcheth   them,   and   scattereth   the   sheep.    (KJV - sent from CadreBible)

Anthromorphic terms to illustrate...

I am the door.
- Gives entry to the promise. So you can go in and out and find green pastures. When you know that you are his child, you don't have to stand outside and look at the promise. The spirit of God is a window into the kingdom.
- We would have fainted had we not seen the promise. The vision. Where I am will not last.
- Take a moment to praise God for his accessibility. Christ is my high preist. Anywhere I am, I can access the door. 'I can go in.'
- It is by will that you access the spirit. 'I'm going through the door.'
I love you but you can't block the door.
- Pastures in the anointing, and pastures outside. Thank him for green pastures. What good is a pasture that isn't green? Cannot be nourished by dead things. I can get a sermon anywhere. Shame on you if you don't go through the door.

An alien factor is introduced into the text. The Thief.
- The fact that you have access to the door does not mean that the theif will not come. No matter how much you pray, the theif cometh.
- If you knew a thief was coming, how would you prepare yourself? You don't have time to fight others. You better get over it - the theif cometh.
- Praise is a weapon. You better praise him!
- The theif cometh to kill, steal, and destroy. Even if it comes in the costume of a person... it is still the theif.
- The sheep are ill-suited to fight with the theif. Small teeth, small head, small brain. Heavy, slow. The wolf is agile, fast, vicious. Shrewd, relentless, powerful. The sheep wanders into the presence of the wolf unaware.

But I come that you might have life and have it more abundantly.
- The shepherd is coming.
- Why have a shepherd that cannot fight. God comes against anything that forms against us. He protects what he started in us.

The Good Shepherd
- Not a hireling to run from the fight.
- The wolf will try to scatter the sheep. Forsake not the assembling of yourselves. The vulnerability of aloneless makes you open for attack. The enemy wants to scatter so that he can destroy.
- The Good Shepherd left the 99 to go after the 1 because isolation is the last step before destruction. People leave before they leave.
- Acts 1: The devil tried to kill the shepherd to destroy the sheep. They got the shepherd and the sheep scattered. Thomas, Peter... But early Sunday morning he rose.
- In the book of Acts, He brought them all back together again. When they are all assembled, they made it back just in time. When the day of Pentecost had fully come, and they were all in one accord, suddenly there came a sound from heaven like a mighty rushing wind.
- The sheep was the only thing that was trapped. The son was lost, but not trapped. The difference between pigs and sheep is that the pig wallows when falls into mud, but the sheep cries out. The sheep is caught up in something he really doesn't want to be in.

The Good Shepherd is calling for his sheep
- My sheep know my voice.
