WTAL Bishop James - The Phillipian Incident

Acts 16:6 Now when they had gone throughout Phrygia and the region of Galatia, and were forbidden of the Holy Ghost to preach the word in Asia,
...
16:25 And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them.   (KJV - sent from CadreBible)

Why would you get in jail and shout for joy?

Blinded is natural sight to open his spiritual sight. Acts tells the unfolding of the destiny of the apostle Paul. You have to have a personal experience with God for yourself.

We must be so submissive to His plan that we rejoice when the door is open and when it is closed.

God doesn't want you to go to places when you will not be effective. The presence of oxen is the sign of direction.

Even when Paul was wrong he was strong. God will not let your strengths go to waste. With the closed doors comes frustration.

Paul goes down to the washing place of women. A society where women were devalued. The river. The washing place. If you we not too choicey about how and where God uses you... he will open up a door in the strangest place.

When he says no... thank him.

God is working even when it doesn't look like it. No man has sat and ministerd to the women since jesus at the well. What is it about women that only Jesus and Paul knew?

Phillipi was full of religious ideology. Mostly around gods of fertility. The women were thinking that "surely, there has to be more to it than this..." They began to meet and pray down by the riverside.

There is something about women praying that makes God send his choice vessel. When women pray, things began to move.

He heard you!

The bible says the knowledge of god will cover the earth like the waters of the sea. He will give you rivers of living water. Swimming in victory. Wisdom flows likes river. Wealth flows = currency. It flows.

Once you find the river, you can step in the flow. What starts at your ankle will reach your waist. "Meet me at the river!"

Paul will encounter two different women that will usher him into his destiny. Most of the women inthe bible are nameless. These women are named.

Lydia is a woman of power in a society that does not honor woman. She is a woman of business and status. And in town on business, she comes to the river to pray. Lydia has power and purpose. She is not defined by who she's married to. She's blessed. Devout. But thankful.

There is something missing, so she comes to the river to pray. She hears Paul preach and decides that Paul has something that she wants. She got down in the flow. She got baptized and her whole household got delivered. Do not let anything get in your way. She made them stay in her house. She put him in the path that would cause his ministry to explode.

On this path he meets the second woman. No name. She's been hanging out but is not one of them.

She is the woman of pain, whereas Lydia is the woman of power. She is among them but knows she is not one of them. There is nothing wrong with what she says... she has the lingo. She wants to fit in. Real things will always recognize a fradulent thing.

Paul loosed her, and the pain fell off. She had a divining spirit and was being used. Paul liberated her.

Are you free or are you just making noise?

When Paul delivered this woman, it set it off. The men got so angry, they beat Paul, because they couldn't use the woman anymore. Be worried if at any time you take Gods man and throw him in a prison and he starts laughing.

It was a setup to move them into a place of power so they could do what God had planned them to do.

Paul never glorified at his afflictions... these light afflictions are but for a moment...

Weeping may endure for a moment, but joy! They started singing at midnight.

Stop adjusting your praise to what you with your eye. Stand therein. This is your turning point.

And the evening and the morning were the first day. God's days begin in the night.

The jailer got saved... the jailer's household got saved. The angels shook the jail.

At the spot of your greatest hurt will be the place of your ministry.
